LUCID, 2022
Dreams are a projection of one's desires, thoughts, and feelings. Nightmares represent a reality that one may fear. LUCID explores ideas of self-discovery, internal conflict, and the intricate framework of emotions that one experiences on this journey. The eyes are the protagonist of this narrative. They are the gateway to the mind and represent the "self watching the self." I took inspiration from the idea of lucid dreaming, in which one is aware that they can control their dreams—similar to self-directing a movie. The division in these two photographs is the imbalance of emotions. Simulated tears portray the yearning to feel—this image represents the dream. The second image represents the nightmare, in which differing emotions create a sense of overwhelm and loss of control.
